What Happened on Fox Street by Tricia Springstuff 218 pages
Get to know Mo's unique, though a bit rough( but sadly fox-free) around the edges neighborhood. This summer promises to be very different. When her best friend arrives for her annual summer stay with her (Da) grandmother and Mo's neighbor, Mo is shocked. Mercedes arrives hairless, having shaved her head in rebellion against her new stepfather. They share some commonalities, both are missing a parent (Mo's mother died years ago; Mercedes's father left before she was born). Her Dad hates his job and saddles her with watching her always on the move younger sister Springstubb has lovingly created a micro-world with elders, neighbors, friends and relatives. It has a bit of mystery (Maureen's missing father),a bit of magic (the long wait for rain) and a subtle examination of race relations. This is a 'hood worth visiting.
