Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez p. 293

This book is about the emotions of four slave women. Perkins-Valdez takes readers on a journey through the lives of four slave women who go to the north on vacation with their masters (who are also using them as sexual objects). They explain their feelings after losing children, being mistreated and abused by their masters and mistresses and their conflicting emotions about being their masters "lover."

Perkins-Valdez is writing about a topic that is not greatly covered. Slaves, according to their masters, did not have emotions. Losing a child did not hurt them because they were not even human. She does a great job of taking us into the complicated minds of a slave and just some of the things they went through. This was a great book.
