jOURNEY OF DREAMS by Marge Pellegrino 290 pages

In 1984 Tomasa and her family live in fear in Guatemala. Army pick-up trucks kidnap young Mayan boys. Planes drop chemicals on the fields. After her mother speaks out, she is forced to leave with Tomasa's older brother. The rest of the family leave later on foot, walking for months, across the Mexican border before finding refuge in the Sanctuary. Tomasa's father shares stories empowering them to overcome their terror.The author captures the feelings of refugees and her portrait of the artistic Tomassa is masterful.
