I, Emma Freke by Elizabeth Atkinson 233 pages

Imagine having the unfortunate name of Emma Freke (pronounced am a freak). Emma blames her free-spirited mother for her name and wonders about the father she never met. Always an outsider at school, things don't improve dramatically when her mother gives her a bizarre birthday present --- an ancient partial homeschool correspondence course. Her mother's plan is for her to work at her mother's bead shop and spend her free time at the library teaching her self out of books. Fortunately, Emma has a best friend and meets a kindly librarian. When she receives a mysterious invitation to the Freke family annual reunion, Emma hopes to find a group that wants her. The reunion is nothing like her imaginings; but Emma ultimately finds satisfaction. Some pretty weird adults!
