River Marked by Patricia Briggs (a Mercy Thompson novel, #6). 326 p.
Early in this volume Mercy and Adam Hauptman get married and go off on their honeymoon. I thought it worked pretty well as a change-of-pace entry in the series. Most of it takes place in a new setting, with new people, but there's still a connection with regular series characters. Besides helping to end an evil supernatural predator, Mercy finds out more about her past--specifically, about her father, Joe Old Coyote, who died before she was born. There's quite a bit of Indian lore, and I have no idea if it's at all accurate, but I enjoyed it.
I do appreciate Briggs' writing style. I'm easily distracted by awkward phrasing or prose that's trying too hard to be artsy. Briggs' style is basically invisible to me. That is, I don't notice it at all when I'm reading; all it's doing is conveying the story to me. For this kind of book, that's exactly what I want.
