Sapphira and the Slave Girl by Willa Cather, 295 pages

Sapphira Colbert, the mistress, is a prisoner in her own body and because she lacks in some areas, she feels her husband may be going elsewhere for what he is lacking in their marriage. The slave girl, Nancy, struggles in her relationships with others, especially her mistress. Sapphira is so overtaken by jealousy, she attempts the unforgivable. Nancy is backed into a corner and does not know where to turn or who to turn to. There are people who care about Nancy but will that be enough for them to help her or will they leave her to suffer Sapphira's punishment?
