In Fifty Years, We'll All Be Chicks by Adam Carolla. humor, ranting, parenting advice (maybe?). 247 pages
Some of you may have heard of Adam Carolla from his famous radio show, Loveline. Others may know him from his "man-powered" cable TV show, "The Man Show" with the man who would become late night talk show personality Jimmy Kimmel. Some may know him from his appearance as a contestant on TV's "Dancing With the Stars"...Chances are Carolla would appreciate you much more as a reader and a fan if you didn't fall into that last group, but hey, to each his/her own.
Carolla is a hilariously cynical personality that translates well to the written page. I know that I posted earlier after reading Patton Oswalt's "Zombie Spaceship Wasteland" that comics just don't write books well, but I must now take that back, because I thoroughly enjoyed Carolla's account of life, the universe, and everything (or more correctly..everyONE). Maybe it's just that Carolla's attitude, which can be described as a "whiny but still totally confident that he can kick your ass" attitude, is easier to read than Oswalt's depressed/philosophical tone. This book is 247 pages of Carolla tearing everything a new one from God to racism to dung beetles and stripper names.
I think I liked this book so much because Carolla perfectly captures the frustration of being a guy from a middle-class background who has so many complaints but no good excuse to complain. To my fellow staff members, if you find my constant listing of things that annoy me that I will describe to you at the drop of a hat off-putting, then you should definitely give this one a pass, because while I wouldn't venture to say that I am as funny as Carolla, I think we have a similar sense of humor.
If complaints (and they're really less of complaints and more of observations) like this don't bother you, then definitely pick this up. I promise more than one laugh out loud moment.
