Castle Waiting, Volume II by Linda Medley 384 pp.
This is the second collection of comics that follows the first book I posted about here. The continuing story of the odd collection of fairy tale characters and others living in the castle begins with the residents trying to decide on the best rooms for Jain and baby to make their home. Chess, the half-man/half-horse knight, is suffering from an injured hoof. Simon, the young hand, is trying hard to learn to read. The doctor who lives there has become quite deluded and the backstory of his previous battles with the plague are revealed. Occasional flashbacks tell the story of Jain's childhood and her betrothal to a boy she didn't like. The blacksmith is visited by his brothers, dwarfs with a knowledge of construction, who uncover a mysterious and dangerous secret passage in the castle. It all ties together but ends rather abruptly with unanswered questions, presumably to be fodder for the next volume. This is one of the most enjoyable graphic novels I've read so far.
