Trash by Andy Mulligan 229 pages
In an unnamed Third World country, the poorest of the poor work at a dump, scavenging for items of worth in the mountains of garbage. One day Raphael, a young boy makes an incredible find, that puts him and his two friends in deep trouble. The authorities want the purse he found and are literally moving mountains to find him and it. The young boys are very resourceful and "use" a priest and volunteer to help bring a corrupt politician to ruin. I saw a documentary last year about a community that organized a union working garbage dumps and after seeing that, I could totally believe the concept of this story. Very thought provoking.
