Sophie Simon Solves Them All by Lisa Graff 103 pages
It was a little difficult for me to relate to Sophie. This third grader has the smarts and confidence to rule the world. She enjoys studying calculus and math has never been my forte. In fact, she yearns for a graphing calculator and I have never used that device. Her parents are concerned that she is not having a "normal kid" childhood. I do confess that my parents worried that I read too much. Lisa, though, is able to channel her wisdom to classmates also having parent issues and earn her graphing calculator. It is funny, but I wonder if young chapter book readers will "get" the humor. She is kind of a female Great Brain for a slightly younger reader.
