Kick by Walter Dean Myers and Ross Workman 197 pages

What a story and what a back story. On the basis of a fan email sent by a young high schooler, Walter Dean Myers, dean of male y a literature, extended an offer to co-author a book and three years later, here is that book. The story is a sports story of a young soccer player who gets in trouble while helping a female friend. It appears that he took her father's car and side-swiped another car. The police officer is called to help because of Kevin's legacy. His father was a police officer who died in action. Sergeant Brown wants to help Kevin out, but is put off by Kevin's quick temper. Kevin wants to help Brown out with a case involving his friend's maid. In the end they help each other out and Kevin even teaches Brown a few soccer moves. This mentoring works on several levels and is a good guy's book.
