The Boy Who Comimbed into the Moon by David Almond Illustrated by Polly Dunbar 117 pages

David Almond has won many awards for his young adult books: Skellig, Kit's Wilderness and others. This is very different from those. This has elements of Roald Dahl and Antoine de Saint-Exupry. A previously unimaginative boy devises a goal to touch the sky. He lives in a tall (29 story) apartment building and decides to go to the roof and hoist a ladder into the sky. He gets help from an odd assortment of characters and makes a weird discovery. This fable exhorts readers to be bold, use their imagination and literally, reach for the stars. British humor at its quirkiest!
