Dash and Lily's Book of Dares

Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan  260 pp.

From the authors of Nick and Norah's Infinite Play List. Dash & Lily are teens who have never met. Each are spending their Christmas holiday without their parents. Dash visits The Strand book store that he loves and finds a red Moleskine notebook hidden on the shelves. In it is a literary request which intrigues him so he plays along and leaves clues of his own. This starts the sequence of events that lead to Dash and Lily each doing relatively harmless things like visiting Macy's on Christmas Eve or seeing a Disney movie to leave messages for each other. In the process they reveal more and more about themselves in the notebook. They finally meet under the worst possible circumstances. I really liked this story, the characters, and the quirky events that ultimately bring them together. The fact that the authors named their characters for a famous literary couple didn't hurt either.

And yes, I did spend most of my New Year's weekend reading.
