The Girl on the Fridge by Etgar Keret, translated from the Hebrew by Miriam Shlesinger and Sondra Silverston 171 pages.
Keret's eerily absurd stories shine brightly in this 2008 collection. Keret, the author of The Nimrod Flipout, and the 2015 memoir, The Seven Good Years, seems to specialize in super-short stories, often only one or two pages in length. He does managed to convey a great deal in a short space, and what is conveyed is almost always off-kilter and more than a little bit odd.
"Hat Trick" at 3 and 1/2 pages tells the story of a magician, one who specializes in children's parties, but then has to give it all up when he becomes terrified by what might reside in the interior of his top hat.
And "One Hundred Percent" is one of several stories that explores the peculiarities of relationships in Keret's more than slightly askew world.
Keret is always fun to read.
