The cook up: a crack rock memoir / D. Watkins 261 pgs.
Dee was the smartest kid on his block and his brother Bip was trying to be sure he didn't end up "in the game" selling drugs. But Bip didn't make it and Dee needed some money. This is a story of a guy who knew that dealing is a temporary lifestyle. You will end up in prison or dead and someone will be waiting to replace you. For Dee is is the love of a good woman who puts him back on track and show him a new path.
The details included here are great. How do you survive the game and come out ahead? What happens to all the money you earn slinging crack? How do you build an organization with all the same type of HR pitfalls that all organizations have? What kind of job can you do when you are brain damaged from eating lead paint chips throughout your childhood? What is it like dealing with cops in the neighborhood?
Very interesting book that provides some perspective.
