Tune, Book 1: Vanishing Point by Derek Kirk Kim, 156 pages.
Andy's mom would have liked him to be a doctor. Or a lawyer. Or even selling Japanese pornography to Catholic schoolkids behind the Seven-Eleven, because at least then he would have a job. But Andy, an Art School drop-out, thinks he's ready for the big-time. He's sent his portfolio to the New Yorker, and a bunch of lesser magazines and publishers, so he expects something any day now.
The job he ends up with gives the book a nice twist.
The art is somewhat plain, but Scott Pilgrims-esque, and the story is goofy, impossible, and fun. Art school, young love, and alien zoos. It leaves you wondering how it will all work out, and when the second volume will be published.
