Roadside America: Architectural Relics from a Vanishing Past by John Margolies, 254 pages
This heavy photo book is a collection of architectural oddities from mid-century America. And when I say "architectural oddities," I'm referring to a bed and breakfast shaped like a dog, a diner made from a 747, a drive-thru donut hole donut shop, a bank with the front half of a steer bursting out of the wall... that kind of oddity. Most of these photos were taken 30-odd years ago, putting a bit of a melancholy note on the collection. How many of these crazy buildings have been torn down in the name of gentrification? Who knows... But it's a great collection, well worth a look.
