Hot Rocks: Beth Bowman, P.I. by Randy Rawls 345 pgs.
Beth Bowman is a cop turned private investigator who moved from Dallas to Miami to escape a bad marriage and make a fresh start. She does work for a large law firm and does other investigations on the side. She is hired to follow a cheating husband but ends up knocked out and the owner of a murder weapon. This makes things a little difficult but in the hospital meets a handsome doctor who has a lot of interest in her. Kidnapping, beatings and other humiliations follow but Beth is tough and now that she has a boyfriend, none of that seems to bad. She also discovers an "army" of homeless people who have her back and keep her safe.
I sort of liked Beth but was also a little dismayed at how her number one priority seemed to be planning her wedding/future children with this doctor she just met. She gets knocked around a few times but doesn't even seem sore afterwards. I picked this one up based on the pretty colors on the cover but I'm not sure I would read a second one.
