Buried on Avenue B by Peer de Jonge 308 pages 9780061373558

This is the second mystery starring homicide detective Darlene O'Hara -- but the first that I have read. An elderly Alzheimer patient, Gus confesses to an old murder of a former partner and subsequent burial in an East Village community garden. A body is excavated, but it is the skeleton of a boy rather than an adult. O'Hara is unsure if Gus can be considered a reliable source -- could he have witnessed the burial and became confused? Why does it seem like the decayed body was recently reburied in the community garden? The investigation grows in scope when it becomes linked to another shooting. Colorful characters and several nifty twists makes this a mystery to savor.
