Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass
by Frederick Douglass
To be completely honest, this isn't something I'd normally reach for out of my own volition. Perhaps its because every time I see a Dover or Penguin Classics books I cringe remembering my extremely daunting History of Western Civilization course. My brother recommended the read however, and I'm certainly glad that he did. A self-taught reader, writer, and speaker, Douglass eloquently details his firsthand experiences of living as a slave. It serves as an important to reminder to readers (including ignorant white people like myself) that the legacy of the injustices of slavery have not completely gone away.
