Punching Out

Punching out: Stories of High-speed ejections edited by James Cross 320 pgs.

This is a collection of 53 first hand stories by pilots who have pulled the lever and ejected from their airplanes. Some of the writing is really fabulous, some are not quite as well done but most are short and sweet. This is a book I totally judged by its cover and am glad I picked it up. I'm a sucker for the pilot stuff and was amazed by some of the survival stories here. I guess when you think about getting blasted out of an airplane you realize what a crap shoot it is that the pilot would survive and after reading these, so many have injuries like a cut on the face or something equally minor. Of course others have much more serious injuries but almost everyone featured here went on to fly again. Best consumed a few essays at a time.
