Princess of the Midnight 'Ball by Jessica Day George 280 pages
A sub-genre of fantasy for older readers is the expanded versions of well known fairy tales. This is a variant of Grimms' "Twelve Dancing Princesses". Princes Rose is the eldest daughter. She may be a princess but the curse has put a huge burden on her. Her clueless father has no idea what his daughters are up to and encourage potential suitors to unravel the mystery. It takes a humble soldier turned gardener to turn the tables on the wicked King Under Stone. A fresh spin on a favorite tale.
