Renee Winter's 16th birthday is quite traumatic. By day's end she discovers her parents dead of unexplained causes in a redwood forest. After their funeral she is whisked off to a new school, Gottfield Academy by her grandfather. Her grandfather had disapproved of her parents and she hates the way he wants to change her life. At the new school she is drawn to Dante Berlin, an elusive, mysterious student (shades of Edward from Twilight). What exactly is the Academy? Very atmospheric, rather Gothic. Pretty good read.
