Shadow by Jenny Moss 375 pages
Shadow was raised in the castle to be the slavish companion to the queen. An orphan who never knew her parents, she dreams of escaping her meager life. The temperamental (mad) queen may have a limited future because a long ago prophecy said that she is doomed to die before her sixteenth birthday. After Shadow displeases the queen, she is thrown into the castle's dungeon. There her life as she knows changes, when she receives mysterious visits from Sir Kenway. She has feelings for this young knight even though he is betrothed to the queen. Soon she finds herself escaping the castle with him when a bid to takeover the castle creates chaos. She finds love and her true identity on this journey.
