Death Cloud by Andrew Lane 306 pages

Sherlock Holmes is a great character. Even though Doyle tried to kill him off, the fans demanded his return. Doyle himself died many years ago, but Holmes lives on in film (I hated the first Ritchie reincarnation and will not see the recent Holmes film) and books. There were two series for young readers with the same premise, young Baker Street irregulars help Holmes solve mysteries. A newer series stars a sister???, Enola Holmes who has a rather twisted relationship with her famous brother. The newest Baker Street resident is Sherlock Holmes, The Legend Begins with naturally, a young Holmes. This has the stamp of approval and authenticity by the estate of Arthur Conan Doyle! 14 year old Holmes is vacationing in the country on break from boarding school when he becomes involved with local murders of two men who appear to have died from the plague. An American tutor begins training the future great brain and Holmes meets the future Dr. Watson. This promises to be more adventurous than cerebral, almost channeling another famous Brit, James Bond. This is more sophisticated than the older series mentioned above and closer to Alex Rider, without the gadgets. Rebel Fire is due in April.
