A gentleman in Moscow / Amor Towles 462 pgs.
Following the Russian revolution, Count Alexander Rostov is sentenced to house arrest to the hotel in which he lives because of a poem he wrote that disturbed the establishment. Confinement seems much preferable to the firing squad and the Count continues to live life to its fullest possible. He befriends young Nina who is also staying long term at the hotel and she teaches him all of the ins and outs of the total space. She has been bestowed with a master key so knows the space well. The Count is a gentleman who teaches Nina a few things but Nina also manages to teach the Count quite a bit.
As time passes, the Count has what he considers a full life but then Nina appears at his door. She is an adult now and has a daughter who needs watching for a month or so. Sophia is entrusted with the Count and Nina is never seen again. Now a functioning father, the Count realizes he might be a tad set in his ways. But like her mother before her, Sophia needs to learn from the Count and also teach him a thing or two.
Like the authors previous book, the language is magical and the story is great.
