Bossypants by Tina Fey, 275 pages
I'm a big fan of 30 Rock and Tina Fey in general, so I had high hopes for this book. It's not a memoir in the sense that it recounts everything in Fey's life so far; rather the book seems to be a collection of the stories you might hear from Fey at a dinner party. Anecdotes about her horrible honeymoon cruise experience, the gay theater friends she made in high school, the intimidating figure of her father (who is referred to as Don Fey throughout; no "Dad" here), a pair of lists numbering the things she remembers about being really skinny and overweight... The whole thing is pretty light and pretty funny.
That said, Fey does go into more detail about her role in the 2008 election cycle and about her beginnings at Second City and Saturday Night Live. I liked that those parts were included and weren't simply glossed over. It helped bring a little bit of weight to what was otherwise pretty frothy. With that balance intact, I got pretty much what I expected from the book.
