Lafayette in the somewhat United States / Sarah Vowell 274 pgs.
Lafayette was just a kid of 19 when he left his family in France and came to the U.S. to an military adventure. He became a hero and ended up looking at George Washington as a father. This book by Sarah Vowell is an interesting history of many of the people who participated in the American Revolution on both sides. I loved her interpretation of some of their letters and diaries and her perspective on attitudes and slights. Vowell seems kind of the like the Mary Roach of history.
