Sophie Brown is 12 years old when she and her parent's move to her great-uncle's farm. They don't know how to farm but as we read, we realize Sophie's dad lost his job and they inherited the farm so this is probably why they end up there. Sophie is interested in learning and would like to raise chickens. As it turns out, a chicken shows up so Sophie starts caring for it. Through a series of letters, we get to know Sophie as she learns her way around the farm and meets a few kids in the area. Her chickens are exceptional and may have special powers. Sophie is a good kid and this epistolary novel has a little adventure, a little conflict and a whole lot of heart.
