The Automatic Detective

The Automatic Detective by A. Lee Martinez  317 pp.

What if Dashiell Hammett wrote science fiction? You end up with a story like this. Mack Megaton is an enormous powerful robot designed to bring humanity to its knees. But he isn't interested in that. He just wants to live a quiet life driving a cab. When the family next door goes missing, Mack becomes a reluctant private investigator. Just picture a robot Sam Spade dealing with the wealthy and beautiful scientist, mutants, aliens, and an evil plot putting the missing family's lives in jeopardy. It's even written in the style of the old film noir movies. It didn't grab me at the beginning but once it did it was a fun ride.
