The guns above / Robyn Bennis, ready by Kate Reading, 351 pgs.
Josette Dupre ends up the captain on an airship when her superior is killed in action. War is at hand but that is not unusual, but instead, the usual state of her country. She is assigned a new untested ship of a new design and must gain the trust of her crew while she figures out how to improve its responsiveness. Oh yea, and there is a foppish aristocrat on her ship, sent to spy on her and get her removed from duty. Lord Bernat is more than ready to make the necessary incendiary reports about Josette. He has no time for an uppity woman in charge. But then the enemy strikes and everything comes down to combat. Action packed and fast paced, this book will keep you on your toes. It has enough humor to lighten the mood while it packs the punch of war at its brutal worst. The audio is well done.
