The continuing story of Digger the wombat. In this volume Digger is made a member of Grim Eyes tribe of hyenas. As part of the memorial ceremony for Skull Ridges, the herbivore wombat has to eat a piece of the deceased hyena's liver which makes her ill. Digger also meets up with a mysterious traveling trader who promises to pick her up on his return trip to transport her to a place where she can get back home. However, the Ganesha statue is once more sends her on a mission which means she will probably miss her connection with the trader. Ed the shunned hyena tells the sad story of why he was ostracized from his tribe. Shadowchild, the hag, and other characters from previous volumes appear once again. An appendix titled "Know Your Elders" gives brief biographies of the hyena elders.
