If they survive, if they wander out, they come out changed and dangerous and must be killed before they kill all of their former loved ones. The Dragon is there to protect the villagers from the dark power of the woods. As Agnieska learns from the Dragon, she finds that she herself has power, and she finds that the evil in the woods is growing and will soon overrun them all if it cannot be defeated.
