The House of Broken Angels by Luis Alberto Urrea, read by the author, 326 pgs.
Big Angel is racked with cancer and will die soon. He is mostly ready but wants one last big birthday party. His mother dies and her funeral is the day before the party. This ensures a lot of attendance. But there would have been a lot of people anyway, he is a popular guy. Great husband, brother, friend and brother in law, has worked hard at being a better father than HIS father who left the family to start another one. Thus his younger half sibling known as Little Angel. Big Angel has lived a pretty good life and has been good to a lot of people, but like most, he has some dark secrets and some regrets too. The unfolding of this story over a couple of days, with some flash backs to his past is a delight from start to finish. I listened to the audio version which is expertly narrated by the author. Listen if you get the chance, it is a wonderful story.
