Pretend I'm dead: a novel / Jen Beagin, 231 pgs.
Mona is 24 and cleans houses to get by. She also takes photos and volunteers at the local needle exchange. She falls for a guy at the exchange who disappears for awhile and comes back clean. Well, mostly clean. Her name for him is Mr. Disgusting so you kind of get a feel for how things are going. Mr. Disgusting ends up back on the drugs and tells Mona she should move away and start a new life in Taos, NM. She moves to NM and into a duplex with a couple of kooky neighbors who try to take her under their wing. Their interactions are hilarious. She meets Betty who is a psychic but needs Mona to spy on her ex-husband. This book is a ton of fun, full of quirky characters and interactions that you will remember.
