Dear Committee Members

Dear Committee Members by Julie Schumacher (2014) 180 pages

Dear Committee Members is comprised entirely of letters that Jason Fitger, a professor of Creative Writing and English at Payne University (a small fictional Midwestern institution) has written to others: letters to the chairman of his department, the Dean, the Vice Provost of the university, his ex-wife, his ex-girlfriend, his publisher, etc. He has also written a huge number letters of recommendation (LOR) for students and a few others who've asked him to help in their quests for internships and jobs. The letters are spaced over the course of one academic school year and advance the storyline, often in the most hilarious way.

I should have read this book prior to reading The Shakespeare Requirement. It would have made me familiar with some of the characters, rendering them less unlikeable at the beginning, and it also would have given me more of the backstory between Jason and his ex-wife Janet.

Jason's barbs sometimes made me cringe, but more often he had me laughing out loud.
