Callander Square

Callander Square / Anne Perry 272 pgs.

This mystery set in Victorian England features a series of murders that occur in a well-to-do neighborhood.  Inspector Pitt is on the job after the bodies of two babies are inadvertently dug up by a couple of gardeners.  Who is the mother?  Why did the end up buried?  Charlotte Pitt and her sister are intrigued by this case and get involved in socially appropriate ways to help in the detective work.  Not surprisingly, there are lots of scandals and situations to uncover in this wealthy neighborhood.  Charlotte, Thomas and Emily use their intelligence and savvy to make strides in solving the crime.

I like the way the case takes center stage and yet we get to know the people involved bit by bit.  A solid offering.
