Saint Mazie / Jami Attenberg 336 p.

A novel about love which is not at all about romance.  Mazie lives on the Lower East Side with her sisters and a sister's husband.  When the depression strikes, Mazie is manager of her brother-in-law's movie theater.  With the help of her friend Tee, a petite nun, she uses her position to shelter a generation of desperate Bowery bums.  According to the author, this is based on a true story.  Very unusual, told in the distinctive voice of a one-of-a-kind woman.
