The dismal science

The dismal science / Peter Mountford 275 pgs.

Vincenzo D'Orsi is a vice president at the World Bank.  His life is at a crossroads.  His wife recently killed in an auto accident, he is at loose ends in many ways.  He has a minor disagreement with a co-worker and proceeds to resign in a huff and make a statement about the pressure he received to change bank policy.  This is all sort of true but not really.  Now he is TRULY at the cross roads...what will he do next?  He isn't in need of money but is not exactly comfortable with this new identity he has kind of forged with his actions.  He reaches out to his daughter but has never felt as close to her as her mother.  He doesn't like her boyfriend.  He accepts a meeting with a former colleague who now works on Wall Street. Then, he travels to Bolivia to make a speech which will really clarify his position and set up his future. Vincenzo is a compelling character because he is trying to find himself...a task which can be difficult at any age.
