The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon, 466 pages.

There were a few too many layers of complexity in this novel of a future world rule by totalitarian governments, like the Scion in England, who are  intent on killing any and all of those discovered with clairvoyant or paranormal gifts. The "voyants" themselves band together in little criminal gangs. When Paige is captured after killing two government agents, she unexpectedly finds herself imprisoned in a strange sort of death camp for voyants run by an alien race who secretly rule the world. There's another group of aliens that they are fighting, and it's all rather convoluted. Paige decides that she has had enough and that she will do anything to escape, but the aliens are unbeatable. But then she finds an alien ally and anything is possible. Wait, they're unbeatable again. Unless we find their secret weakness. No, wait, they're unbeatable again. Oh look, there may be a way to pull it all off after all. Nope, that's not gonna work . . .
Not really a bad book, but its got that overdone sort of tone that drives me over the edge. An interesting world, and some very good writing, but it goes off the rails, for me anyway.
