The Iron King by Julie Kagawa 363 pages
A better than average teen fantasy, this should appeal to fans of Melissa Marr and Cassandra Clare. This opens on the cusp of Meghan's 16th birthday. Ten years earlier, her father disappeared and her mom moved with Meghan from the city to a bayou pig farm. Meghan feels a bit on the outside (it is hard to be cool with the scent of pigs clinging to you), but has a best friend Robbie. Her birthday is memorable, but not in a good way. Her little step-brother has been replaced with a changeling and it is up to her to try to rescue him. It turns out that friend Robbie is a faery and he escorts her to Nevernever. She meets all sorts of fantastical creatures including Grimalkin, a cat with vanishing powers and Ash, an Unseelie prince. I just discovered that this is just book 1 in an established series. So obviously all the plot strings couldn't possibly be tied up.
