Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson, Fiction, 358 pages.
Major Pettigrew, a widower for many years now, must decide whether or not he will defy small-town convention and declare his loves the widowed immigrant (though long-time resident) shop keeper, Mrs Ali. Pettigrew also attempts to deal with his son, and his son's upwardly mobile desires over the course of the story. It is a good book, one to recommend to fans of of the "Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society," though it is not quite as good as that one. My only problem with the book was Pettigrew, who is at times a somewhat whiny character and refuses to grow and accept that he has to do what you know he is going to do. He does grow, but not until long past the time he should have done so.
