A collection of related stories...some characters show up in several, many are related to each other by familiar ties or just know each other but each story can stand on its own. Set mostly in Russia and spanning from the 1930's to the future, this collection is wonderful. Some stories are terribly sad, some very funny but all are hard to put down. I was sad when I came to the end and I think that is the ultimate compliment you can give to a book.
