Moods / Yoel Hoffmann, trans. by Peter Cole, unpaged
Odd and initially off-putting, this is a series of loosely connected brief passages. They contain fragments of memory, musings, passing thoughts, and bizarre notions. At first I found it almost impossible to make sense of this, but eventually it began to work on me like a drug, and I entered into the author's weird frame of reference. The Holocaust, lots of sex, Tel Aviv, metaphysics, it's all there.
