The hundred-year house, by Rebecca Makkai

A tale told backwards.  We begin in 1999 and work our way back a century in a mansion near Chicago. There’s a ghost and a bit of a mystery.  There’s a generational saga and some scandal.  Things aren’t always what they seem.  During its middle years, the house was an artists’ colony known as Laurelfield Arts Colony and arts and artists are a connecting theme.  I found the book more confusing than pleasurable.  338 pp.
