Cat Daddy: What the World's Most Incorrigible Cat Taught Me about Life, Love, and Coming Clean by Jackson Galaxy 285 pp.
Jackson Galaxy tells his story of his messed up life before he became famous with the television show "My Cat from Hell." He begins his tale in Boulder, Colorado, the place he landed after leaving his birthplace of New York City. He was working in a Humane Society shelter by day, playing in a band by night, and using and abusing legal and illegal drugs, alcohol, and food to an extreme degree. That was where he became the guardian of Benny, the cranky three-legged cat who would have died without Galaxy's insistence on keeping him alive. It was at this shelter where he first learned many of his cat taming techniques. It is also where his drug and alcohol addictions came to a head. After kicking those habits he found another addiction, food, ultimately ballooning to 400 pounds and rapidly dying from the resulting health problems. After a gastric bypass he battled his way back to health while creating a career for himself as a cat behaviorist. The book ends before Galaxy became a television personality. At the end are techniques for dealing with cat behavior problems.
