How to be a husband, by Tim Dowling

Dowling, an American who lives in London with his British wife and their three sons, writes a column for The Guardian and the book is an outgrowth of that work.  This witty take on marriage has at its core this statement on page 7:  “Two decades on we are still together, still married and still, well, if I hesitate to say “happy,” It’s only because it’s one of those absolute terms like “nit-free,” that life has taught me to deploy with caution.  It feels inherently risky to express contentment:  I know that twenty years of marriage doesn’t necessarily guarantee you ten more.”  But judging by the then next 264 pages, I’m betting they have a good chance of many more years together.  271 pp.
