Standard Deviation

Standard Deviation / Katherine Heiny, 319 pgs.

Graham has been married to Audra for 12 years when an opportunity arises to circle back and be friends with his first wife Elspeth.  He knows he should not compare them but he can't really help himself.  He cheated on Elspeth with Audra and eventually left her.  He and Audra now have 10 year old Matthew, a kid on "the spectrum" who loves origami.  He also has a young secretary, Olivia, who sometimes needs help with clues about basic life functions.   He is really a bit of an introvert but Audra is the exact opposite, she talks to everyone, knows almost all of them, and often invites people to dinner or even to move in for lengths of time.  This book is basically Graham's take on his surroundings, his relationships and life in general.  Often hilarious, occasionally heartbreaking, but always possibly real. I enjoyed this immensely and will recommend to anyone who enjoys domestic fiction with realistic relationships.
