What a terrific and
engaging book. I regret that I was busy
the night the author appeared at the library, although I would not have gotten
as much out of her talk until I had both re-read Middlemarch and read her book.
It deepened my understanding of not only the novel, but of George
Eliot. What a remarkable, and brave,
life she led. And how interestingly Ms.
Mead’s has echoed hers. Obviously a
labor of love as well as fine scholarship and it should be required reading in
any course that teaches Eliot or for any reader who wants to appreciate the work even more. 293 pp.
