Middlemarch, by George Eliot

A favorite of mine from my English major days, I was happy to learn that it was this year’s summer read for the library.  It was interesting to re-read it at a remove of decades and found I loved the sly humor in it, which I had forgotten about.  Although I had to force myself through the first part, because I was so upset that once again Dorothea was going to marry the wrong man for all the wrong reasons, once I resigned myself to her fate, it was a pleasure to meet old friends again.  799 pp.
